DBA 5000 Series XD Cross Drilled Brake Rotor

-Black Hat

Sharing all the benefits of the 4000 Series, DBA’s 5000 Series rotors are a composite 2 piece direct replacement brake rotor. DBA uses only the highest quality materials to ensure optimal performance under the most strenuous circumstances, combining high carbon cast-iron rings with aerospace grade aluminum hats (T6061-T6), held together with National Aerospace Standards (NAS) bolts and crimp nuts. The 5000 Series share all of the performance technology featured in the 4000 Series, with the added benefits of further weight reduction and improved heat management via aluminum hats. The use of aerospace grade aluminum hats reduces the un-sprung weight of the brake rotors, while allowing for uniform radial disc expansion through the cast iron rings, and reduced heat transfer from disc to hub via the aluminum hats. DBA recommends the 5000 Series for high performance street vehicles, track day and club racing and rally applications.

Expert Opinion

DBA 5000 XD Rotors are one of the highest quality drilled rotors on the market today. Although not as durable as the T3 due to the cross-drilled holes, the XD version carries all the other high quality characteristics. The light weight 2-piece design reduces un-sprung weight that greatly affects acceleration and deceleration rates. On average, these rotors will last much longer than most other rotors on the market. If you are racing, use the T3, for spirited street performance, the XD certainly fits the bill.

DBA 5000 Series XD Rotor Ring Features

  • Replacement Ring for 2-Piece Rotor
  • National Aerospace Standard (NAS) bolts and crimp nuts
  • XG-150 High Carbon Alloyed Iron
  • TSP (Thermal Stability Profiling)
  • Thermo-graphic paint markings (THGP)
  • Direct replacement suitability
  • Moisture proof corrosion protection packaging

DBA Thermal Stability Profiling

Thermal Stability Profiling

Thermal Stability Profiling (TSP), is a DBA proprietary process, developed for use with all 4000 and 5000 Series high carbon disc rotors. Under the TSP process, XG-150 grey iron is subjected to prolonged heat cycles under strictly controlled conditions, to relieve any internal stresses sustained from the manufacturing processes. This ensures maximum thermal stability and reduced metal fatigue in extremely high demanding applications. DBA’s comprehensive materials testing both on the race track and in computer simulations has enabled the development of this temperature cycling process to optimize the disc rotor material prior to fitting on the vehicle.

  • Improved fatigue resistance to minimize surface cracking
  • Reduced rotor fatigue during prolonged heavy braking
  • Quick replacement, minimal "bedding-in" of rotors

Thermal Graphic Heat Paint

DBA’s patented Thermo-Graphic Heat Paint (TGHP) markings are a standard feature on all DBA 4000 and 5000 Series disc rotors. The TGHP paint stripes of Green, Orange and Red will change color once your DBA rotor reaches predetermined critical temperature thresholds. Driver’s can monitor peak rotor temperatures to better understand the effects of their driving style and make informed choices in pad selection or whether their driving style is best for the application. TGHP color coding is incorporated with DBA’s range of Performance Pads, with the Performance Pads color coded to the heat thresholds. When your TGHP stripes change color, you should ensure you have the right DBA pads to match.

DBA Rotor Cleaning

Cleaning a disc rotor correctly will often eliminate any issues with squeal, runout (DTV) and pad contamination. Most disc rotors have a protective coating applied post production to avoid any corrosion during storage. It’s a simple process that can be done in less than a minute.

  • Use a suitable brake parts cleaner. - Please Note: Carburetor cleaner and brake cleaner products are not the same. Carb cleaner is intended to leave a lubricating residue whereas brake clean will leave a dry surface.
  • Apply the brake part cleaner to a clean cloth or paper towel. - Applying directly onto the disc rotor can damage any paint coating intended to protect the rotor from corrosion.
  • Wipe in a circular motion around the friction ring surface.
